As above. After a certain point in life employers tend not to be bothered about proof unless its a requirement for a position, i,e accounting qualification, and can usually tell whether or not you have a clue in the application and interview process.

I went for an interview last week in a University and had to provide proof of my qualifications (O levels and an NVQ!) and I left school in 1985.

I also had to provide them a few years ago for a role with the DWP.

How old was the person who asked for the proof, I wonder.
Did they actually ask for 60 years of employment or was it just "all employment"?

Well yes all employment. No idea how old the person was, it was a requirement on their application form.
Didn't even get a reply, I heard via the person who was employed that they no longer employ "older people." Illegal discrimination I know but unable to prove it and I'm no longer interested in volunteering for them.

I keep getting invited to interviews where they ask me to bring copies of my entitlement to work in the UK, and my qualifications. No-one has ever asked to see the latter (I have been asked for the former, prior to starting work). I sometimes feel like hitting the interviewer over the head with the file - what is the point of working hard for these qualifications if anyone can claim to have them and no-one checks?

After 20 years in work whether you got a GCSE in home economics is fairly irrelevant, I would expect you to have copies of any professional qualifications but i am interested in what you have done in your work. Personally i normally don't bother reading what qualifications people have as its not relevant (unless they are a recent school leaver) My own CV states GCSE X and A Level Y; no grades and no subjects.
  • I agree but after 24 years of working, I am suddenly asked upon amalgomation of the company that I work for under a TUPE merger to provide copies of my GCSE exam results which I took in 1991. I haven't seen them for at least 16 years! I invited Security Watchdog to try and obtain copies themselves if they desperately want them. My old school has been knocked down and replaced with a College so good luck to them with getting copies. Why should I keep copies of certificates obtained nearly a quarter of a century ago when I have so much more important paperwork to keep and so much more relevant work experience that should be the focus of their attention now!

    UPDATE

Well great news - I have already found myself another job! I had two interviews for 2 vacancies and was offered both. I had a choice !

At both interviews there was no mention or even interest of my qualifications at all, just my work experience. It would appear that not having proof of your qualifications doesn't automatically prevent you from being offered employment. Obviously for professional qualifications relating to a specific post may be different though.
