Yes strip out anything that refers to Keeper liability as they are not chasing you as a Keeper but a known driver.

Like all of these, it turns on the signs (you'll need to get those) and the contract (ask Matalan)

See if Matalan would help by detailing the contract they had with Smart or if the can't give you the whole contract, the part that allows Smart to take action in their own name on Matalan land.

I emailed them months ago asking if they could cancel the ticket. They replied with a generic response, almost identical to one that has already been posted on another thread, so I doubt they'll be of help. It does mention though, that Matalan have spoken with land owners to have SP removed from their stores, so as Matalan aren't the land owners, I'm not sure they will be able to give me any info.
I have sent an email anyway, in the hope that they may offer me something I can use!

Smart Parking are no longer managing this car park, so signs have been replaced by Euro Car Parks... I'm hoping that will go in my favour!

Ask your local council who pays the Non-Domestic Rates on the car park. That will identify the landowner/occupier and you can then contact them. Or try a site like CompletelyRetail(https://completelyretail.co.uk/index.html) as they sometimes list the managing agents for the site. You can then get onto them to put pressure on Smart.

I've just logged in to MCOL and my defence is too long to fit in the box given. What is the best next step for sending it to them?

I know a bloke once that converted his file to a PDF file and included that

Convert to .pdf file, then attach it to an email. Check with the court the next day that everything has been received.
