hi there,
I have decided to downgrade my phone to a 'dumb' phone.
essentially a phone that only calls and text and has no data features.
Does anyone know of any phone providers that still have sim cards with calls and texts only??
I am looking to get a basic phone tomorrow and sell my iphone6.
TIA

If your new basic phone has no data facility, you can just ignore the data portion of the best SIM-only prepaid or plan that you can find for minutes and texts.

Just use https://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/mobile/phone-deals/sim-only and select 'no data' to get the best deals.

There are some PAYG SIMs that might be suitable, Three's PAYG is 3p per min, 2p per text. https://www.1pmobile.com/ is 1p per min, etc.

Be careful with contracts at the moment, prices are changing, probably due to the imminent EU roaming changes next month. EE have hiked theirs, Vodafone have put up theirs, Three have some changes due to come into effect around midnight tomorrow...

They don't state either way but it may be that they need lots of minutes and texts rather than a minimum PAYG sim.

It's also worth pointing out a 'dumb phone' won't work on Three as they require a 3G capable handset to receive service (assuming OP purchases a phone with no 3G cellular connectivity).
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Careful with 1p Mobile also - they cut you off if you don't top up in 120 days - not the best setup on a budget (and the minimum top up is £10.)

Delight Mobile offers the same rates as Three (1p MB, 2p text and 3p minute) on EE so no 3G capability needed, but any unused credit expires after 90 days.

If your use is such that a bundle is not suitable, perhaps O2 Classic Pay as You Go. 5p each for everything, so without data charges can be quite reasonable.

There's also giffgaff with free to giffgaff for 3 months with every purchase (beware the 15p per minute standard charge if you don't have a bundle or free to giffgaff.) Again 5p per text and MB. They also have forums where you can contribute and earn some credit or extra cash, plus £5 free credit if another giffgaff member refers you. Think you mentioned the kids having a giffgaff phone last year, so could use that account to refer yourself and bag the £5 bonus on both ends (the account that refers you also gets a £5 bonus (currently £10 until the end of May I believe.)

If you're interested in giffgaff and don't have anyone to refer you, you can go to the giffgaff forums and use one of the members' banners to get the free £5, or I can PM you my link.
