A full driving license allows you to ride a 50cc moped without any requirements.
Depending on when you passed your car test.

I was fine with all the replies until I got to the last one which says I need CBT. So, do I need a CBT to ride a moped or not?
When did you pass your car test?

TBH, a 125cc on L-plates until you pass your full A1 test is probably a lot better option than a 50cc without L-plates, unless you're only 16 years old...

Velosolex. I've got two - a 3800 like that, and an earlier 2200. Legally, they're just the same as any other <50cc moped.

And, yes, I do mean "<50cc moped" - everything moped is <50cc, not everything <50cc is a moped.

When you don’t need to take CBT

You don’t have to take CBT if you:
    • want to ride a moped (up to 50cc) and you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001
    • want to ride a motorcycle and have a full moped licence from passing a moped test since 1 December 1990
    • have a full motorcycle licence for one category and want to upgrade to another
    • live and ride on some offshore islands

I passed my full driving test in July 2009. And nope, I am not a teen, left that several decades ago. :-)

If I require a CBT to ride a mped, then why do I have p on my driving license? Any recommendation on CBT provider?

By the way, I like that bike but it seems a bit front heavy. :D

Because, with a CBT certificate, you will have a full licence without having to do anything else.

Trust me - a VeloSlowlex is not something where weight distribution makes a big difference to the riding dynamics. They are - by all rational standards - utterly, laughably, ridiculously risible. My mountain bike is not only a lot faster, but handles hills much better, and is a lot less work to ride - and doesn't need any of the legalities... I love 'em FOR that.

Also, do I need to apply for a learner license as well (along with CBT)?

hehe, I can imagine. Sounds like a fun project to make though. I have an petrol edge trimmer at home. Perhaps when it "breaks", I will try making that with my mountain bike :-)

My hedge trimmer's engine is more powerful than the Solex...

I got my bike licence back in the 70s. Last bike on the road was over 20 years ago. I think I'd feel inclined to get some sort of "refresher" if I was going to ride now, whatever the legalities.
I remember there being a shop that sold those Velosolex bikes in the town where I lived in the 60s. Window full of new ones back then. They're a friction roller drive to the front wheel aren't they?
