Explain to them that they won't be eating, AT ALL... no matter what the problem/delay and there's a £5 bonus payment to any boy that does NOT complain about being hungry counting from the time you enter Gatwick and ending ..... when you decide.

Fed them before you leave home.

Normally they wouldn't be eating after about 8pm to abuot 7am would they? so I dont see what the problem is.

If need be take some mars bar or similar with you, pack in your suit case.

We took pot noodles for our two last yr. Just in case nothing was open. We was delayed and it did look as if nothing was open. If we hadn't been so tired we'd have realised the restaurant was still open.
But a pot noodle each held us over till morning.

I get this often with grabbing late Friday evening flights after my OH finishes work.

How are you getting to your hotel? Most European airports have a 24/7 food vendor on the approach roads. Alternatively, do a google street map walk around your hotel and find out where the nearest fast food places are. They'll probably be serving until the early hours.

If they're late teens they will be able to work out where to get food for themselves. I'd leave them to arrange their own! Presumably if they work out they drink protein shakes so suggest to them they take their powder mix in their drinks container and buy the milk air side at the airport. One of those will keep them full for a while. They could also take some protein bars.
At that age until mid 20s my son was a competing athlete and he could manage from 9pm until 8am without eating, even when in heavy training.

I wouldn't worry about it, they don't normally eat at 1am do they ? Surely they can wait until breakfast ? They're not toddlers.
