who should i be pursuing for a refund?

KLM cancelled my flight the day before the flight. We were informed on the morning before the flight. so less than 48 hour notice
I did not turn up for the flights.
I have emailed the travel agent - they refused to give me a refund
I have contacted KLM, they also refused to give a refund.
Under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, I know that I am entitled a refund as well as 250 euro compensation. I should pursue KLM for my compensation but who should I be pressing for the refund?

You contact the airline not the agent so KLM. Google and download Vaubans Guide all explained in there, then follow the advice0

when notified of a cancellation it is usual for an alternate flight to be offered or information re cancelling for refund, do you still have the notification?0

KLM very rarely cancel and don't offer an alternative. Who told you, the agent or the airline? I would worry that the airline told the agent weeks before but the agent 'forgot' to tell you.
The agent may have then cancelled your booking with KLM, and KLM rightly take the view that as the flight was non cancellable or refundable, no refund is due. We need more information to advise you further0 -

KLM advised that the flight was cancelled and has agreed to pay compensation.
An alternative was offered but I did not take this because it would have got me 5 hours after the start and require a transit via Brussels to Amsterdam.
However, they have said that the travel agent has to issue me the refund the ticket and will put this in writing.0 -
I believe that refund is from travel agent and compensation from airline (but TA will wait until airline has refunded them, so might not be immediate)0
