BT broadband 'Scam'

totally disagree with that, as I have had infinity or the plusnet version for 4 years and accepted that the max speed I get is 10mb, whilst paying for a 'potential' higher speed. I am sure it used to be the case that you just got your speed estimate when you took out the contract and you accepted that you should get something near that. I have just taken out with sky and that is exactly what they did. Can't believe that anyone thinks BT are being responsible, my view is that they are just trying to rip off as many people as possible especially those who live in more rural areas who are less likely to meet their infinity cut off speeds. They are actually being responsible by refusing to sell a product which will not be up to standard and , if you took it then realised its limitations, you would soon be on forums like this complaining about a what a poor service it was.0 -

That's where it differs. Plusnet offer 40/2 regardless of speed.
BT offer 55/10 providing your line is capable of 15meg or more on the downstream.
Just because Tesco sell a 5 pack of Tuna, doesn't mean that Asda have to.0 -
You won't convince many or indeed any here that this is a scam. BT have decided to offer the Infinity branded product only on lines supporting a minimum of 15Mbps and that is entirely their perogative. They could, if they wish, refuse to offer any FTTC service on lower quality lines and it may well make better business sense to do just that as longer lines almost always means more joints and the more joints there are in a line the more chance there is of a failure because most problems are caused by the joints. Problems cost them support time and ill will.Well to me, a company that charges significantly more for an inferior product, by changing who is 'allowed' to purchase that product, thereby restricting the market is a 'scam'
One way of looking at it (but not a very useful one from the customer viewpoint) is that you actually get more for your money with a long line than a short one.0 -
Lines can also degrade for many reasons .
That of course is also a scam as OR go around with a mobile de grader wagon .0
