I had some disappointing news today that I didn't get a job that I was recommended for by a consultant in the industry. It would have been a hard job for similar money but it was a ladder I was keen to climb... Or rather there's nowhere to go where I am and I've been there for ages. Apparently I was down to the last 2, but I'm never sure if that's a consolation or not?! I guess with things as rocky as they are maybe it's best to stick somewhere safe.
In positive news... I showed my OH how if we put the money we currently pay the nursery towards the mortgage (when we get some free childcare hours from January) we will save a whopping £60k in interest in the long run. I think he 'got it'!Mortgage Total #1: £166,000 OPs so far: £10,250

It will be much better with you both fully on board, working as a team, and you will get there twice as fast! Fantastic news!"...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Getting started with eBaying (and Facebook marketplace)! I am doing just one or two things at a time which makes it much more manageable. On the whole I've give all my son's baby stuff away to people who need it and maybe don't have a lot of cash but there are a few things I've kept back and am selling. I am finding stuff I haven't used in ages like one of those electric IPL hair remover things that's in perfect nick but I haven't used for about 5 years! I don't have much of an update but was a bit annoyed that OH just doesn't get it. I voiced my concerns about the fact we have a great joint income but it all vanishes. He said he has no idea where it goes and he was willing to get involved with a budget but said 'let's get Christmas out the way because that will be expensive" and my head nearly blew off. I stayed calm but said, well the point of budgeting is to decide how much you want to spend, not spend anything then work out what you've spent. Christmas is the PERFECT time to start budgeting! He *sort of* got it but... Ugh, such an uphill battle. Then yesterday his friend wanted to watch a dvd that he had which we don't have so they could watch it together and message all the way through it. The film would be £10 to buy from Amazon/Netflix. I would say to my friend, I really want to watch this but it's a tenner, how about something else? But he cannot lose face and wants to be a part of the party so just bought it anyway. I'm feeling so frustrated!
In good news I should get a decent commission cheque over the next couple of months so could go towards the new windows that we desperately need and have had a good quote for (£5k ish for 7 windows, 5 are uPVC sashes).

You did well not to rip it off!
A friend once said to me "in all relationships there's one side of it who has to take control of budgets".
Perhaps this person is you? Work out income, expenditure, savings and a fun fund for each of you, make it clear when the FF has gone there's no more until the next budget run.

It's tough when you aren't on the same page, but, keep trying, even if you have to take the reins for now. Good luck!"...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Hello maybe it's worth taking out savings as soon as you are paid and moving it into a notice account so he is less likely to want to spend it due to the hassle. Eventually he will realise how much you are saving and will cotton on.

+1 to Swan's idea. Hopefully it would reinforce that it's ring-fenced?
