Apologies for another car question!
Would any of you buy a diesel at the moment? A few years old....

Yes I would. Why wouldn't I?0 -
Yeah, cheap tax, cheap to run and possibly good performance0

I'm just concerned about potential government taxation on diesel vehicles. Although the new cars seem to be affected, and those older than 2009 likely to be subject to charges to drive in certain areas, there is nothing to say the government won't try and affect all diesel owners by adding a few extra p on per litre at the pump....0

There's nothing to say they won't throw 50p a loaf on bread, are you going to stop buying sandwiches in advance just in case?0 -
Rather than being difficult I'd prefer some constructive advice.
Likelihood of 50p tax being thrown on a loaf of bread - low.
Likelihood of 50p tax being added to diesel - moderate to high......
A car is more expensive and more risky than a loaf of bread.0 -

No, just think of the impact that would have on the costs of everything, including bread, that is transported by lorry. Then you have the knock on effect on inflation and the votes such a move would cost any party that tried to implement it.0 -

95% of all goods in the UK move by road, aka lorry and van. Lorries and vans run on diesel, lorries using a hell of a lot more than a car - at the company I worked at lorries were double shifted and were going through 300-400 litres PER DAY each. So what do you think the likelihood of the government punitively increasing duty on diesel is going to be?0 -

I'm not being difficult, I'm answering your question. Would I buy a diesel? Yes.
Why? Because I'm not paranoid about potential changes in the taxation system.
What I was trying to illustrate, but you've been unable not to take literally, is that one cannot run one's life based on what might or might not happen.
Sorry you're unable to understand the concept of figurative illustration, but that's your problem, not mine.0 -

I think the likelihood of both is about the same. Do you have some inside info?
I run 2 pre 2009 diesels and don't plan on changing that anytime soonRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
