Help! Credit Check NPower
Hi!
So I have just moved into a rented house and now called NPower. Apparently due to my credit I need to either pay £400 upfront (security deposit £200 for electric and £200 for gas) or go onto a prepayment metre which I'm not sure my landlord will allow!
I don't understand how we passed credit checks to rent but can't pay for our power by direct debit.
What do I do?
Are there companies with no credit check?
Any advice would be great Please!!
Thanks

Scottish Power do not do credit checks, or they didn't with me.
Different companies have different levels for passing a credit check. Your rental company had a lower one than NP.0 -

This MSE article explains the credit checking policies of the Big 6

(this more accurately relates to those requesting to change from PPM to credit meters, but I suspect it's not too different to new customers moving to them with credit meters already)
The issue is, however, you will need to register with the existing supplier as a customer before you can think about switching supplier0 -
Your LL cannot refuse a PPM, but may insist that it's switched back at end of tenancy.
I suggest you see what is on your credit file...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
