Shield parking ticket

My husband studies on an evening at college and has a student parking pass, parked today for an exam at 1pm and has received a parking ticket for 'incorrect permit for zone,' the sign in the car park stated 'valid permits required'
When he asked the security guard, the guard said his permit is only valid after 4pm, but it doesn't state this on the pass.
Is it worth us appealing or sending a letter saying we won't be paying?

You need to post in the dedicated parking tickets section. You will get much better advice there. It can be found here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
Be sure to read the sticky threads especially the one starting with the word Newbies. It's a comprehensive FAQ with instructions as to what to do.0
