Dyson Tester?? Is it a Scam?

Hello,

My partner was using her mobile phone and saw an advert on Gumtree, advertising they were looking for Dyson Testers. She doesn't know much about technology and has ended up clicking a link and then entering her mobile phone number.

I'm sure once you've entered your mobile number, it's an agreement to say you've accepted their T&C and that you get charged or something.

Could anyone please advise what if anything I'd need to do?

Thank you.

I would say stop worrying - the worst that will happen is a lot of spam emails
They have no access to your money - unless your partner put your bank details down...

I would say start worrying - the worst that can happen is you start receiving premium rate text messages

No - househunt's partner - simply told this company what their mobile number was - didn't actually send a text from the number - anyone can "make up" a number and state this on a form - and if they were able to charge "any" number - then something would clearly be wrong ...

Thanks for your prompt replies. Basically she saw the advert, clicked it and chose the APPLY button. It then took her to a screen which asked her to complete her name/address/phone etc. Once she did that, she clicked OK/CONTINUE.

    This is all she knows.

    especially the bit
Sometimes all companies need to start sending people expensive texts is a phone number on a website.
To the OP - just be vigilant and read the MSE link I posted.

That's very helpful advice, thank you.

So I guess all I can do is keep an eye on our phone bills?

Also what if we receive premium text messages? What should we do?

    I never text STOP......
    I just block the number.
If you do text the word STOP then the scammers know your phone number is active !!!

Texting stop is the official method for preventing further premium rate messages, some companies are technically operating legally but trick users into signing up for a premium rate text service that they didn't actually want. In that case users can text stop to prevent further messages and if the company stops, then they are still operating legally.

Disabling premium content will vary depending on your network provider, if you contact them they'll be able to advise how to do it.
