Will easy jet refund our flight cost?

We are having to cancel our flights on Tuesday due to our friend who is a passenger on our booking being diagnosed with cancer and advised not to travel as treatment is needed asap. I have contacted easyJet and sent the relevant doctors letter to them with an explanation.
Has anybody ever got a refund direct from easyJet? I would rather get the money back from easyjet rather than our insurance as we have to pay the first£50 due to the excess.

TIA

You bought non refundable tickets. They won't refund you but they may give you a flight voucher. Its entirely at their discretion. People cancel for medical reasons everyday and they can't refund all of them.

Personally I'd just claim from the travel insurance. Medical cancellation is one of the main reasons we buy it.

agree with the above, had to cancel recently but it was for me rather than a passenger, Easyjet gave me a flight voucher for the four passengers.

That is what its for although you cant claim for the taxes as easyjet should refund them after the admin fee has been taken off.

    vouchers may be best

Easyjet don't charge an admin fee for APD refunds.
