CollectPlus lost my parcel

Hey,
So last Tuesday (02/05/17) I purchased a parcel delivery from Parcel2Go. I chose CollectPlus with label printing (as I was out and about without a printer). My parcel was a mobile phone (~£600 new). I went to my closest CollectPlus and showed the shop worked the barcode - which he tried to scan (and failed) and said he doesn't know how to do labels. I then left the shop and tried another shop with CollectPlus. This one also didn't have a clue how to print a label, but had more of a go, and printed out what seemed to be an information label. He then told me to sellotape this label to the box, and hand him the parcel, which I then did. I was a bit worried about this, as the label that he gave me didn't even have a barcode on it, just a bit of information about what I purchased. Fast-forward a few days, and they have now lost my parcel. Parcel2Go say that they can only ever refund me the £6.50 it cost for a parcel.. which is obviously much lower than the value of the phone (on the way back to the insurance company). What can I do?
Thanks!

Presumably you took out insurance for your parcel?0

I'm afraid not - I assumed it was already covered by my Phone Insurance who it was going to to get repaired, but apparently not. Not sure why my insurance care who lost it?

You have no recourse against Collect Plus - you're a customer of Parcel2Go, not Collect Plus.
If you chose not to insure the parcel, I'm afraid your on your own - a hard lesson learned.0 -
Surely these companies have to be at least responsible for doing their job? The insurance they wanted on the parcel was an extra £55 or so on top of the £6.. don't really think that's feasible, I could have driven to the other end of the country for that price myself...0

Royal Mail would have covered you for up to £1000 for less than £10.
There is always an element of risk when choosing a cheap option.
You only posted it last week, there's still a chance it will turn up. If it has the correct address but no bar code it could be sat somewhere waiting to be manually sorted.0 -

Did they offer you insurance and you declined?0 -

So why didnt you then ?
Why choose collect plus over Royal Mail ?
Why not print the label off at home when you bought the service or wait until you has access to a printer ?
Im sorry but I agree with eberyone else, your down a phone and you need to replace it.0 -
If you'd paid the £55, you wouldn't be down £600.
You took a risk declining the insurance, and it's not paid off.
I should add some perspective - I'm a very large customer of Parcel2Go, and I don't insure anything I send. Some products are £500+ but I take the risk knowing the courier rate is cheaper.
I'm not defending them by any means, but choosing not to take insurance carries an element of risk which I opt for every day.
So far I'm quids in - the cost of missing / damaged items is much less than the insurance would have been.
The house always wins, as they say0 -
I didn't realise RoyalMail would cover up to £1000, I'll definitely start using them if I need to send parcels again. Why not print the label off at home when you bought the service or wait until you has access to a printer ?
I paid extra for this service - didn't think it'd cause me so much hassle.
I guess I just have to take it on the chin - but I really do think at least somebody should be liable in these situations. Why should insurance be necessary for them to do their job? What's to stop them doing it for 4/5 parcels that pass through their hands for every parcel that doesn't have insurance?0 -

Mistakes happen, as they do in any process where humans are involved.
If insurance was not optional, if they had to pay the full value of each lost item, then they'd have to build that cost into the base cost. So you have a choice of a low cost and taking your chances, a low cost and taking out insurance, or everyone paying a higher cost.0
