The family going through the ASDA checkout in front of me on Friday evening were definately Old Style fans.
I'm a bit of a missy for eyballing other people's shopping, and theirs put me to shame. Their overflowing trolley included:
It was the last one that was the give away!!
Seriously self-controlled shopping. I ended up abandoning some of my impuse buys at the checkout, faced with such a good example before me!
So - is anyone going to own up? Was it you? Or have you spotted another anonymous old styler in similar circumstances?

- about 8 bags of value pasta
- 3 of those massive (5 litre?) bottles of orange squash that can't be lifted up by anyone who doesn't work out
- about a year's worth of on-offer loo roll
- enormous quantities of BOGOF tinned tuna
- 12 bottles white vinegar

Need to be honest. I abandoned SOME of the impulse buys - but the 6 'family' sized bags of thai sweet chili Sensations crisps made it home wth me. (Buy 3, save a few pence offer)
The chiilli crisp is the food of the gods. Does anyone really share them? Bit like asllegedly 'family' size choc bars. I live alone, and I'm all the family there is: eating it up is NO problem. :rolleyes:0 -
It wasn't me, as our Asda hasn't been built yet
(been on a promise for about 7 years now).
However it made me remember something I meant to post, that maybe should be on the Vent board. I can never find the 19p Value bread when I go to Sainsbury's, and was starting to think maybe our branch don't do it. Then last week I was waiting at a checkout and saw someone at the next one unloading what must have been about 20 loaves of it! Their trolley was completely overflowing with the stuff.
It made me think that obviously what happens is they do put it on the shelves, but if you are not in the right place at the right time, it is all snatched up in one fell swoop by those who have massive freezers.
I thought it was a bit unfair on everyone else, actually. Any views?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

most prob a local cafe buying up all the bread, as its so much cheaper than the stuff they can get at a cash and carry0

Were they wearing the "Old Style" badge?
If they had a safety pin in their lapel ... there's a good chance they will be confirmed "old stylers"
Sadly, I think there are only two of us wearing them ... I just know you didn't see me~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Slightly offtopic but I snoop in other people's baskets too!
The best one ever was ten cartons of soya milk and loads of packets of black puddingI can't imagine what sort of family would live on that!
There was a moneysaving-ish show years ago where they grabbed people's shopping trolleys and interrogated them on their shopping habits. I always thought I would come off badly because I only have a mega supermarket shop once a month to stock up on tins and dried goods, my trolley would make anyone think we never eat fresh veg  !
I'm always amazed at little old ladies with tins of brand name salmon, tinned ham and other luxuries when I thought our grannies all knew about moneysaving. Still, if the old dear can afford some posh food who am I to criticise0 -
Once the lady behind the checkout commented on how healthy the shopping of me and my other students housemate was. It was a sight - 6 x 4 litre bottles of milk, loads of tins and pulses etc.
And LOADS of fruit.
not cheap though. Would do it better now.....Proud to have become an Ocean Rower in 2010 (crossed the Atlantic in a crew of 4 ladies and had the best 77 days of my life!)0 -
Humm
I'm better now although you can generally spot the BOGOFs in my trolley. Stupid at times 'cos they make me buy things I would probably pass, and on others I have storage issues...
Years back when Sainsburry's did the airmiles ontheir vouchers, they had some amazing offers with super extra points and I remember one occasion when I bought about 20 jars of tomato fritto and 50 packs of delicious biscuits because it was cheaper than buying a return airfare to visist my mum....
Not so good these days!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

They were all reduced in my local morrisons yesterday --- 29p for a 6 pack as they go out of date on Monday......needless to say DH got a few to stash away for his lunch box."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
I wish that I could say it was me. My late wife was very adept at careful housekeeping and was able to make something out of nothing at the drop of a hat. These days I am catering for myself and although I agree wholeheartedly with some of the ideas on this forum it is economically impractacle to go to such extremes for myself, even if I knew how to cook. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I regularly buy ready made meals from Asda.0
