Already has Defender. You can add extra layers of protection, such as a modified HOSTS file and add-ons that stop scripts from running etc.

I use Avast on all ours, it has consistently found threats that others have missed.

Worth doing a "Boot Time Scan" as it can access all files before Windows loads.

As k for a recommendation and you'll get about as many as there are AV products.

I used to always advocate Avast but now prefer Bitdefender Free.

I find it is faster, lighter on system resources and doesn't nag you all the time. :)

I wasn't affected by Gillor's link - I've been away from Avast for quite a while now.

Make sure you have at least two Windows accounts, one Admin for installing software etc and one Standard for day to day use. Honestly it is more important than AV because there are always new viruses coming out and it takes time to get AV software up to date. A standard account can only access certain parts of your computer, worse case it probably damages your windows profile, but with Admin user virus can mess up your whole PC.

As for product, I would go along with others above, forget about fancy graphic consoles, you want lean and mean AV that does not use 80% of your computing power just to keep your PC clean.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

Thank you for stating the reason
You might be right it is rated high here

But I am still reluctant to replace my AVAST for simple reason. I have not convinced that their business model is to allow free download for basic Feature with continuous support for upgrade.

With BitDefender, you might find yourself stuck in the middle when they stop supporting their basic feature. Hopefully it will not end up like many people who believe they get McAfee for free and later found it is extremely difficult to remove it.

AVAST has been good in this sense for many years and still rated high from time to time.

People who has got info is there any info which could lead people to believe that BitDefender have a business similar to AVAST ??
