Why not just read what they say about themselves ... https://www.bitdefender.co.uk/ :)

Looks to me very similar to Avast.

I suggest you try Bitdefender. Even the free version has URL scanning - recently fixed so it actually works. Don't think many (any other) of the freebies includes a working URL scanner... A mandatory feature these days.

*** only try this if you know what you're doing ***

And test this with the following adware link www.googl.co.uk
Your feedback on this is expected...

*** if your virus solution doesn't trap this then it's not good enough. ***
*** And I am not liable for any data loss etc which you may suffer. blah blah blah...***

What does it do with https://www.googl.co.uk ?

Panda doen't do anything with that.
Presumably that means it doesn't have a working URL scanner?

Does Bitdefender free have pop up boxes trying to get you to upgrade to the paid version?

Not sure to be honest. When I did a review of AVs a couple of months ago I bought (cheaply) Bitdefender AV 2017 Plus (a bit of a mouthful) which had problems with the URL scanner... That was fixed.

I know the free one checks URLs but haven't had it running long enough to know if it puts popups up. Sorry. Try it.

Might well do just that. Thanks.

Make sure you have at least two Windows accounts, one Admin for installing software etc and one Standard for day to day use.

Been a waste of time for a while now. The NHS ones that were infected were running standard accounts.
