Meter Box

Hello,

Just a quick query about the replacement of the box surrounding my gas meter, it is in need of a replacement as currently its boxed in via a small bricked and timber roofed unit (which is just crumbling), I would rather scrap it all and have the traditional plastic box on, I think I understand that's its the property owners responsibility for this, but suppose I am really asking, is it easy to fit the plastic boxes yourself? Or do you need a gas person/ company to do this, if so any recommendations or anyone with experiences of swapping them out who can provide any info.
Thanks!

If you need to move the meter, I think you'll need to contact the supplier to do that.

Otherwise, fitting the plastic box is simple enough. :)
(But the issue is the meter goes in the box, so you usually need to remove it to fit the box)

You can get the boxes from builders merchants - you may be able just to get the door and frame, in which case you wont be touching the meter itself. If not have a complete unit and butcher it to suit your purpose.

One thing to watch the sizes have changed over the years
