Mistakenly re-applied for Credit Card within 6 months deadline

Hello,

I have a good credit history with no issues but I just did something silly.I mistakenly re-applied for Credit Card within 6 months deadline as I saw an offer I liked, but I closed one from the same company in February.

I was subsequently declined. Can I sort this at all?

Approach the company to explain?

Many thanks in advance

I did the same thing and was basically advised that there was nothing they could do. The application had been made, assessed, and correctly recorded on my credit history as a hard search and there it shall remain until it drops off. It cannot be undone.

Would you be approaching the company for its removal if your application had some how been accepted? I suggest not.

What is it that you are looking to sort out?

Your credit file must be an accurate representation of the facts (well so the theory goes) - which means a credit application will be recorded and based on the internal policies of that company, it looks like you won't be eligible to be successfully reconsidered for another 6 months from the date of this most recent application.

ohh I know that and have decided to suspend having a credit card but I wanted to expunge it as a negative since I wasn't declined for any credit reasons.

How do you know that? And even if it's true, it's ultimately irrelevant, the record of a search on your credit file will accurately reflect the fact that it happened, but not the fact that it was a decline.

    Fair enough.

Although, unless you have specifically been told otherwise, who is to say you were not declined on credit reasons?

I suspect it probably was down to your credit file. The reason being, that if that lender has a rule on 6 months before reapplication, their system 'could' (not definitely would mind) have thrown out your application before commencing a credit search.

Does it actually appear on your reports or are you just assuming it does?

Some lenders will run you through internal checks first before going to the bureau.

True I haven't seen anything yet so I'll just ignore it for now.

I have a squeaky clean credit file. I was reminded the letter confirming the closure of the account mentioned the 6 months embargo

Out of interest - who is the card provider?
