I really don't see why people find this stuff so hard.
Whoosh. Blimey .... looks like we found your little secret hobby!
I didn't even read most of that as it was really heavy going.
Every aspect of modern life has been automated to the point of complication.
People aren't waking up thinking "I know, today I'll tell the establishment to stuff itself and I'll go rogue" .... they simply get caught up in something they never intended to.... and life is now harsher in that it's "tough t1tty"

In the nicest possible way, if your daughter is old enough to drive and buy a car then she should be responsible enough to know (or find out) what she needs to do about tax and insurance.0

I had the same experience, I changed my car last month, the dealer contacted the DVLA online while I was with him and informed them they had taken my old car which was part exchanged and taxed my new car for me so I could drive it off the forecourt, receipts for both transactions were printed off and given to me.The dealer I used gave me a choice of taxing it myself or they will do it for you, I got them to do it for me and got a receipt for it.0 -
Really?
Most of the DVLA online stuff only seemed to work in office hours last time I looked, maybe they have been working a bit harder lately
I had to check myself and still no change, 7am-7pm

The problems I had was taxing it two days before the end of the month so I paid a months tax for two days and as the database can take up to five days to update I was apprehensive about parking on the road in case I was clamped as it took three days to show as taxed on the gov.uk website.
The other issue was the tax refund on the trade in car, DVLA refund from the date they receive it so delays in the post or them opening it
ment I lost the next month when they sent the refund.
Not sure about the other methods but if you do it online, you'll be emailed a copy of it. I think their website or email even states something along those lines - that the confirmation email can be used as proof the vehicle is taxed if pulled over by the police before database updates.Really?

To transfer keeper/ownership, its 7am to 7pm (and states that on the page). However on the tax a vehicle page, it doesn't say the service is only available during those hours so perhaps it is a 24 hour thing?
ETA: a quick google and a few sites (newspapers, rac, insurance companies like direct line) all say you can tax the vehicle 24 hours a day online or by phone. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Car tax has changed again, new vehicles its quite complicated. I think the tax charge for zero road tax cars is a joke too, people get a tax reminder for a tax bill of £0 - and if they dont tax it they get the same fine any other person would get, you have to actually go through the process of paying zero or you are fined, clamped, vehicle lifted etc.
Tax on new cars has a year 1 surcharge (i think emissions based) plus a surcharge for the first 5 years if the value is over £40k. Simples ... errr not. Every car now pays £140 a year if the emissions are above 1gram per km / mile, ie anything other than completely electric. (Which to be honest do cause co2 anyway).Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -

But only in how the banding for cars new since last month is worked out.new vehicles its quite complicated.
All you need to know is what band your new car is in. It doesn't change. Ever. Been like that for low CO2 cars since the introduction of CO2 tax in 2001.
Been like that for since the introduction of free "historic vehicle" tax in 1993.
Been like that for other £0 vehicles for even longer... Disabled drivers, emergency services vehicles (including preserved fire engines in private ownership), agricultural vehicles, various others.Tax on new cars has a year 1 surcharge
Been like that since 2010.plus a surcharge for the first 5 years if the value is over £40k.
That's the only thing that's actually new this year.0 -

Yes but she's from the Isle of Man. I think that should be a defence to lots of things.
A few years ago my BiL blithely swept through a clearly red light, even though they are one part of modern technology they also have on the island.0 -
Because the criticism was valid, and actually helpful. People who write walls of text limit the amount of help they will get.
I can surmise the subject of the OP from the replies, but I haven't actually read it ... and that's because it is a wall of text. (It hurts my eyes to try and read such text). There are many others who will also skip past OPs which are walls of text, thus preventing possibly vital help being received.
40 posts later and the OP hasn't changed their post, everyone else managed to read it.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
