Your tax expires 6 or 12 months after you buy it - you have a birthday every year, and you remember that, VED is no different. If you struggle remembering things, buy a 'calendar'.
I can remember my own birthday, and the baby Jesus's alright, any one else I have to have someone tell me, so I have no idea when anything else happens (ok, I know November the 5th and New Years Day as well), so I rely on reminders, and checking at the dot gov and MID everytime I panic.
Maybe I should get one of these calendars, I would just need to remember to write in it
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Thanks Cloth of Gold. I just feel guilty I didn't see it all and advise her myself.....its all so different in the Isle of Man. The UK legislation can be a bit scary and confusing for us in the dark ages! Still yes indeed, a lesson well learned and of course Direct Debit will be the way forwards!0

I don't see how its hard to understand either. You know it needs to be taxed in order to be on the road - so if you haven't taxed it yourself maybe you should check !
That being said, just thinking about it, none of this stuff is taught in driving lessons or your test. It was a bit confusing for me when I bought my first car last year.0 -
Exactly kmb500, and a clueless Mother didn't help either!0

The other issue was the tax refund on the trade in car, DVLA refund from the date they receive it so delays in the post or them opening it
ment I lost the next month when they sent the refund.
In The Olden Days, (when everything was better), they refunded you the month if the envelope was postmarked on or before the 31st (or the last day) of the month before.
So you could walk to the Post Office (remember when you had one in walking distance?) on the last day and drop it in the box to catch the last collection at 5 or 6 PM (not the single one at 8 AM 5 days a week, holidays excepted, like now:mad:)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Now, you can do it online at 11.59pm...0 -

That wasn't my experience, I sold my old car at the end of the month and the date of sale and the acknowledgement from the DVLA crossed a month end but my tax refund was based on the date of sale.0 -

Really?
Most of the DVLA online stuff only seemed to work in office hours last time I looked, maybe they have been working a bit harder lately
