Moving Home - Virgin Price Increase?

Good Evening All,

Long time reader, first time poster, be gentle! :D

I am shortly moving home and have contacted Virgin Media to move across our services from our current home to our new home. They arranged it all quite quickly, told me there would be a £20 moving fee which is fine and arranged to book an engineer in for a convenient time.

All this was done and then when I thought the conversation was drawing to a close they hit me with the fact that as the Fibre 50mb that I am currently on is no longer offered then I would have to upgrade to 100mb for an increased price. When I queried the price they offered a small loyalty discount but it was still higher than what I currently pay, and when I asked if I could cancel as there was a price change they said there would be an early termination charge as I have 5 months left on the contract.

I am just looking for advice really as to whether this is legit, it doesn't seem right to me as whenever they increase the contract price there is usually a 30 day period that I can cancel due to a change in the contract, but apparently this isn't the case despite it not really being my fault that they have stopped offering the service I am currently paying for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot,
J

The only reason the price is increasing is because you are moving and the product you are on is no longer offered. What you have been told is 100% correct and you have the choice of cancelling and paying the early termination charge or accepting the deal you were offered,

You may or may not get a better deal offered if you ask again about the cost of cancelling as you are seriously considering that option.

    Hi kwikbreaks,

Thanks for the reply, not particularly what I was hoping to hear but I understand the logic behind it!

    Cheers,
    J
