    1. Diesels produce less CO2 than petrol.
    2. CO2 produces climate change.
    3. Therefore, diesels are the saviour of the planet.
    4. Yay.
    5. Let's tax diesel less and get everyone buying diesel cars.
    6. We will save the world.
    7. Everyone buys a diesel car

Don't forget that as diesel vehicles produce less CO2 than petrol vehicles, they are helping reduce the impact of man made climate change (allegedly) and as they also cause 10-15,000 extra deaths a year in the UK, they are again helping reduce climate change as a lower population means reduced demand for food, energy and other services that directly or indirectly add to the CO2 output.

    8. Whoops, hang on chaps, apparently diesel isn't as wonderful as we thought ...

The problem is the Govt supposedly "knew" about the damage diesels could do but allowed the above to go ahead anyway. That's what I hate.

I've been looking at Tiguans & the like lately & it's interesting that many cars of that type are still only available with deseasel engines.
Swmbo has a diesel car that she uses largely for commuting (22 miles each way). She wants a Tiguan too (and sometimes she looks at the Touareg, the Discovery Sport and the Q7). We live in Birmingham and she commutes to Coventry.

I'm surprised the dealers haven't dropped the price to help increase sales.

    ?

    Why would they do that?

    They're clearly still selling.

No not 10-15,000 extra deaths, 'premature deaths' that may be a few days, a week or longer statistically knocked off the length of your life. Of course if you are a smoker, obese etc. then the effects of pollution are going to be insignificant in reducing your life span compared with those other factors.

    I drive a Berlingo 1.6 HDi.

Average around town is 60mpg. It really shows it's economy on motorway journies.

Btw can't believe how cheap fuel s in Scotland compared to Essex.

I can see one benefit of any scrappage scheme. There will be fewer diesels capable of running on waste veg oil or bio diesel, so the cost will plummet.

Might be worth keeping my old Convoy after all.
