Diesel, Fuel of Satan?

We do north of 15k a year and don't go into major cities.0

One day the earth will explode. You should worry more about that than whether diesel will be banned.
What percentage of public transport is still diesel? How many years before they replace those with alternatives?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Having just last week bought a 2016 Passat TDI from a VW dealer, i personally have no fear of diesels.- It would be highly unlikely that road tax increases will be retrospective (they have never successfully done that to date and its a vote loser)
- They cant prohibitively increase the cost of diesel fuel dramatically, as our transport system is dependent on it
- Any plans towards the removal of diesels from our roads are around older Euro IV and pre Euro IV vehicles.
Changes are the Tiguan is Euro VI anyway, so much less0 -
I suspect government will start to hammer diesels whichever denomination gets in after June 8th.
How?
The conservatives will get back in and they have already produced a paper on it and they basically sitting on their hands and telling councils to reduce emissions in their respective cities.
Any talk of a scrappage scheme is aimed at both older diesels and older petrol cars, and would be based on moving to an EV, and is only likely to result in maybe 15,000 cars being replaced.0 -

The issue will be around clean air zone/low emission zone charging, particularly as the courts are now forcing the government and local councils to act.
With the EU tests shown to be a sham, and even the latest vehicles producing real-world emissions well over the expected limits, I can't see how those zones could have much impact if they only applied to the very oldest diesels - there aren't enough of them on the roads. The government is going to have to move up the age range to have any impact.0 -

Then it is a good job the OP's said this.We do north of 15k a year and don't go into major cities.0 -

Like the O/P i dont travel by car in to any major cities, and that wont change for me.
Plus its 2016 and Euro VI compliant so would be outside the remit of most of the proposed city charges.0 -
Having just driven to central Scotland from Essex, I am glad I was driving a diesel.
£35 worth of diesel for a 565 mile journey. Have to think how much it would have cost in petrol.
My daily commute to work is a 15 mile journey, around 12 miles of which is motorway. So a diesel just about makes sense.Never Knowingly Understood.
