just listening to the radio, had someone from this website http://www.whatpricedidyouchoose.com.
apparently the results as they stand suggest an average payment of £4 per download, which seems remarkably generous given the comments on here. having said that, i'm not sure if that includes the discbox sales.0 -

Very interesting to hear that £4 is the average. I suspect that this does not include the boxset; I have seen various articles and forums on this subject and it seems many people hold the view that the download should definately be paid for, for exactly the reasons provided here: as a fee to the artist and also a message to the labels.
I did see this site previously, but really didn't like the idea that I had to provide my email address to see the results! For those interested though, there is a sample of responses on the site.
Edit: Actually, I may be wrong. The site says "If you pre-ordered the Discbox, but, would still like to take part in the survey, just enter 40.00 as the downloadable version is included in that price.". In this case I would assume that the £4 does include those users - unless the site owner was sensible enough to discount those who voted "Not applicable - I already ordered the discbox" from his stats. Difficult to say without hearing the piece. I would suspect that these votes are a negligible percentage though, and have not skewed the results too much.0 -
I am so glad I paid £0.00 for this album, I downloaded it at 9am, listened to it and then deleted it before I comitted Suicide. :wall: I'm sorry to all who like radiohead but this album is rubbish.
They haven't gained me as a fan but I'm sure they will have gained some grumpy emo kids as fans...
Good luck to them but I'm gonna stick with the music I know and Love...0 -

Fair enough. Has Barry Manilow got anything new out at present MaddenLover?0 -
ive been reading through all of these messages on the thread and i see the logic of what radiohead are trying to achieve, to show other bands that you dont have to let the record industries and retailers make money off their hard work, and THEM making the lion's share of the money
I know by admitting this im sure to get a lot explosive hate mail by admitting that at first i paid 0.00p for my download, this is only because this is the first time i have even HEARD radiohead's music and was unsure about paying money for something that isnt in a physical format (CD, vinyl) and i may not like....
So, I gave a listen to the album on my iTunes, as soon as 'videotape' ended i went back to the site and bought another copy for £7, I think this is a great method to help bands attain a higher profile, and im even more glad that a politically and socially conscious band such as radiohead are leading the way in this.
To those who do pay 0.00p and keep that version, I emplore you to spend a little on this album....even if its something like £2.50 (average price of a pint).....it will last longer than a pint and you'll appreciate it morebut ultimately let your musical conscience guide you.....
Great work from radiohead0 -

My husband is a mad Radiohead fan, although he didn't think much of their last album. I have suggested he download it for free (well, 45p) & listen to it, & then if he likes it, make a decision then on what to pay and download it again with a more realistic contribution. As a download without a cd or cover or distribution costs, I reckon a fiver is fair if he likes it.0

I don't understand this; I've seen this is various news articles. After some initial questions on this thread my first pre-order was for £0.00, as a test; I did not have to provide my credit card details and therefore cannot be charged (for that order). Unless the system has changed the 45p handling charge will only come into play if you choose to pay any amount of money, and therefore the PSP (Payment Service Provider) becomes involved. Can anyone who paid £0.00 recently confirm this?
strangely, the first time i ordered i entered £0.00 as a test and it requested my CC details, which annoyed me somewhat.
however, i tried it again a few days later and it went straight through without a problem. my experience coupled with the endless news reports saying the minimum that can be paid is 46p makes me wonder if the system is glitchy (which is worrying) or that its just a bit random.
although i suppose from a pedant's point of view, the minimum that can actually be paid really is 46p, as if you do choose £0.00 you're not technically electing to pay for it at all...0
