Only when the midlife crisis groups are failing to follow the Highway Code and are cycling two and three abreast, or failing to use the cycle paths the local authority has spent millions providing.0 -

Nope. Don't care where on the road individual cyclists ride (except if they are on the road if there is a cycle path).0 -
:rotfl: :rotfl:
However, there are some good cyclists, and some very good cyclists. We tend to only notice the bad ones, though, i.e. the ones that go through red lights and the ones who ride without lights at night, and the rude/inconsiderate ones.
When I see a cyclist who actually stops at a red light, and waits for it to turn green, I feel like hugging him/her, and ditto when I see one from miles away, at night, lit up like a Christmas tree! Yey! I say! A cyclist I have actually seen way before I am up their bum! Have a hug!
I saw an even rarer sight the other day!!
A cyclist actually QUEUED UP IN TRAFFIC!!! There was plenty of room for them to zip to the front and there is a cyclist zone at the head of the junction, but yet they just remained at the kerbside parallel to my motorbike (I was also queuing in traffic).
So so odd... I think anyone would have forgiven them for filtering on the left hand side towards the cyclist zone!0 -
Pedestrians should step aside and give way for the faster moving bike and the cyclist should ring their bell and slow down as they approach a pedestrian.
They should slow down I agree! I would not, however, encourage a pedestrian to step aside immediately as it only serves to encourage the cyclist to pass at a more dangerous speed (lower reaction times, larger force if impact occurs). All about managing the speed of other vehicles....
I do it all the time on my motorbike. Position myself in a way which prevents someone overtaking me at like 60 on a 30 road when I'm already doing 35/40 (get the occasional bit of abuse for it too, specifically things like "you were all over the road")! That's the sort of idiot thing that you see the occasional cyclist do! And swimmers (I mentioned them earlier!). All about trying to manage the speed of other vehicle users sometimes.
Firm believer that priority should be given in the following order:
Mobility Scooters > Pedestrians > Cyclists > Motorbikes > Buses > Cars > Vans > Lorries
Or something like that. Gotta show respect for the road/footpath users who are down the food chain from you...0 -

I haven't got a bell but, if necessary, will simply call a cheery "coming through" in a voice commensurate with being heard. On our local country lanes this is particularly true for passing horses, so that you don't surprise the stupid beasts. As a rider I always appreciated it as you could also shorten your reins as a precaution.
As I am NOT a gentleman or have any daughters and {as far as I know } do not suffer with dementia. Also I have never punched a cyclist I can assure you it was not me, yet you may have given me food for thought regarding future moves towards cyclists who get too close as it would make a good defense {I hope} if I was taken to court:D0 -

I much prefer cyclists to be cycling next to each other in one big group so they are easier to overtake. If they all cycle in a line then a group of them can be quite difficult to overtake on a windy road.0 -
Driving home late last night, I encountered a cyclist on two occasions coming towards me with NO LIGHTS AT ALL.
I usually encounter at least one bike with no lights every time I drive at night.
What goes through the minds of these people?(I just lurve spiders!)

Other road users are a menace! As you say, you really wonder about some people.
Round here we get car drivers jumping red lights and rat-running through the village at double the speed limit.
The council spent millions building a bypass with a 50mph limit, but selfish motorists won't use the facilities that have been built for them. Two elderly people have already been hit by speeding rat-runners on the zebra crossing in a 20mph zone.
At least cyclists without lights aren't endangering other people's lives -- just their own.0
