Can I join this thread please.

I'm quite tight with meall plans and main shops but let myself down with top up shops.

I would like to aim for £180 for the month. Two adults and a 5 year old.

From my previous post I should come in well under this. I have cupboards and freezers full of food which I could fill up a large part of the meal plan. The salad leaf is coming along nicely to and the other fruit and veg is finally starting to get going. I also have a stash of cleaning stuff and some toiletries.

I'm scurry try trying to minimise what I have in the house, generally not just food, so this challenge will help.

I shopped last Friday so my next big shop will be a week on Friday. I despise shopping so it's once a fortnight for me. If I had the space it would be once a month. Any money spent between now and then will be a top up shop, mainly bread and fruit. I have loads of everything else.

I'm going to go and check out the recipies on here as I do need some inspiration as with food I'm stuck in a rut.

    Looking forward to the challenge.

Thinking about it can I change to £315. It's a 4.5 week month and I won't be spending £70 each week.

I wrote a massive post then deleted it as I realised you guys don't want to read all my rubbish!

    To summarise -
I was really good and used up practically everything in my fridge before shopping - usually Thursday, but managed to delay until today.
Lunches made for the rest of the week, ingredients bought for soup tomorrow night and 3 more nights, plus dinner stuff for girls night Weds (me mum and sis)
Got some good deals, bought a couple of extra bits but nothing major, feeling good about the month.
The Ocad0 shop is a few dry goods but mostly cleaning stuff and toiletries stock up while on offer again. I tend to save it up as they do good deals on my eco stuff (ecozone), e.g 342 and BOGOF.

Hope you all are already having good month - I feel i am and I feel in control. It has helped having a good month last month, reminds me I can do it!
Just realised it looks like I essentially only have just over a third of my budget left, but that should be plenty for 4 weeks shops which are basically just fresh stuff (my Ocad0 included 4 blocks of tofu, which, yum! I love tofu!)
I know I can do better budget-wise, I think I have expensive tastes! - but baby steps as FlyLady says!

Ooh, sorry to double post, but just wanted to say, I went to the Tall Ships Festival with my sister yesterday at Gloucester Quays, and we had lunch at the Wetherspoons there (which is in a really pleasant position on the water.. we didn't get to sit outside as rammo,
but still..!!), and they not only do a brilliant "deli deal" which is a sandwich type product served with salad or chips and a drink for £4 something, or make it an alcoholic drink for £5.55! The best bit is they have several vegan options, so I had a delicious avocado bagel with tomato,
coriander, red onion and lime, with chips, and a side of salad, plus a glass of vegan pinot grigio for £6.90!!!
I think I'm going to become a Wetherspoons fan!
The festival was good by the way, I ignored the stalls except the Canal Trust used book stall where I got 7 books to read for £2.50!!!

Anyway my point was, it is totally possible to eat out on a budget... mine was from my entertainment budget not grocery.

Not sure what my food plans are for today, as I'm spending the day with oh. Hopefully he'll do us something for lunch, then I have loads of stuff in the fridge that could become a meal without too much hassle - 2 leeks, onions, cheese, lo mashed pot, lo cheese sauce, lo pastry, mushrooms and loads more. Oh, and a pack of ham. Looking forward to creating something from all of that later!!

Not sure if today will be a nsd or not yet. I normally do my shopping on a Sunday ready for the week, but it's half term and the children are at their dad's so I didn't bother. They're back tomorrow evening, so I'm still debating whether to shop today or tomorrow (I'm at work tomorrow, hence the dilemma). Don't need too much, just bread, milk and some f&v.

Well. Nothing really went to plan today, but I was very good. Didn't really have lunch, as I had a late breakfast, so when oh and I were out, he suggested we get stuff to nibble on at his during the pm while watching films. This worked for me as my hips are playing up today. Anyway, long story short, we went to @sda, he paid, I bought nothing, then because we'd had that so late, I didn't need to use my fridge gravel.

Wonder what I'm eating tomorrow!! :rotfl:

NSD yesterday. Not too tricky as was doing some Bank Holiday overtime and it's only the day after grocery shopping day :)

Had some veg soup for lunch, which was made with a bag of pre-prepared soup veg mix, which I don't normally buy but was reduced to 60p so figured it was worth it for 5 healthy portions of homemade soup!

Had Spinach and Mushroom Risotto for dinner, which was really nice and used up the half bag of risotto rice that had been lounging in the cupboard for a while. Added recipe to thread, link in sig :)

First spend for me for the June challenge today - £43.17 for the week. (1st to 7th June)

Having spent this morning doing a meal plan using Jack Monroe's blog as inspiration, we have Mushroom Mac and Cheese, Carrot Cumin and Kidney Bean Burgers, and Mushroom Stroganoff on the menu this week :)
FoxFace - your sausage casserole looks really yummy , and is likely to make an appearance in next weeks meal plan!
Hopefully we can stick to the plan and not succumb to temptation (and all subject to little one not making a dramatic appearance, which is making it slightly challenging to make plans at the moment!).

I've decided to split the budget into 4 weekly mini budgets of £40, with an additional £15 for top up spends on milk/bread/emergency chocolate etc ;)

Hopefully, with the support of everyone on this thread, I will have a much better June :T

    Wishing everyone a lovely day
