Hidden, have you looked at the Dyslexia Association website. You might find it helpful. It has a section on how to talk to schools if you think your child might be dyslexic.

That teacher shouldn't be putting so much pressure on a 6 year old's writing skills. Bless her, no wonder she feels stressed.

Another one here who thinks you're a fantastic mum, you're doing so much better than you think - and you're doing it all on your own, that's no mean feat.

  • Hi, not much help I know but my husband works in further education and has a ridiculous number of students who are diagnosed with dyslexia each year after having going through their whole school lives and even having done A levels without being diagnosed. This is not a failing with you, it's the system.. The fact you are getting on this issue so quickly shows what a great mum you are.. X

Awww poor DD feeling like she's going to be in trouble at school and how awful for the teacher to say she will rip the work out!
You've just reminded me I had some parents ringing up unhappy today as there is just too much pressure on the kids nowadays.
You are getting it sorted though, so don't be beating yourself up xx

  • Thanks all. Its nice to know someone agrees with me.

DD came out happier today and said they'd spoken to her about what was upsetting her and she told them the same as me. I'll be sure glad when its half term!

I'd promised to take her for a walk to the shops this evening while the other two was watched by their dad, but I really don't want to at this time and I feel awful :o I might bribe her to wait until tomorrow :rotfl:

I need to get something to eat yet and do the ironing and have a shower. Then I think an early night if I can win DD round and get out of going for a walk.

Well you have had a day of it, glad you got it sorted out for DD. I don't get why they learn cursive writing it seems difficult to me.

Anyway hope you had a good restful evening .

Glad there's been some improvement re school. I thought the days of teachers making pupils feel bad were over. I have bad memories of being rapped on my knuckles with a ruler by one teacher and having my homework thrown across the room at me by another because the ink had smudged slightly. Having said that, my mum was soon there sorting them out.

Hope you get your early night and have a lovely weekend xx

Aww Hidden, I’m so sorry to hear that about DD & school. I was very sensitive when I was younger & would worry myself to death over really silly things - but they weren’t silly to me at the time. I would have been devastated if a teacher had said something like that to me. I’m so glad you’ve spoken to the school & they are going to sort it out, like everyone else has said you were 100% right to do so. Your DD is lucky to have you. :T

The worry monster sounds good, I’ve also seen something called worry dolls, you get 6 of them in a wee bag and you tell each of them a worry at night then put them in the bag and under your pillow to make the worries go away. I always thought that was a nice idea & would probably have appreciated something like that or the worry monster when I was a wee girl. There’s also a book called the huge bag of worries (I think) for kids that’s meant to be good.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.
  • Thank you Sashy I will go look for the worry dolls. Amazon recommended the book huge bag of worries and I was tempted. I think I might order it with some more of the vouchers.

She seems a lot happier after spending some time alone with me, I took her for a walk and we just chatted and looked for things to make cards/pictures with. I think I'm going to try and get her out for a walk on her own at least once a week. So she feels she has that time to talk if she needs too without being interrupted etc by the others.

She's away to a party this morning so was very happy. She said she was a bit nervous as it's the first time going 'alone' without me or my mum. I'm sure she will have an amazing time though and it's a friend who is quite local but 'nice' not very often there is nice people local to us :o
  • I've paid V!rgin this morning and have meal planned and sorted out the fridge.

I think we might need a few potatoes. Although I'm going to avoid it if I can and swap some for rice/pasta/yorkshire pudding instead.

4 days to payday. Even though it will go out quicker than it comes in I'm looking forward to being up to date with my bills etc.

Depending how tight it is I might have to 'borrow' for youngest DLA account for the zoo entry on holiday. I have a cheque from Populus to bank £50, £40 from one poll on its way and £22 from Panelbase. So this will cover the zoo and other holiday spends just not sure if they will clear in time.

Have finally started DS room so along with the things I ordered for DD Amazon vouchers will be nearly gone. After this is finished I will move onto the bathroom then the toilet. Then will come downstairs and do the living room and kitchen (only need going over with paint nothing else) then move back to my room last I think this gives time for the vouchers to build up enough to get a bed/bedding etc.
