When to replace brake pads?

I suspect he is referring to the Halfords lifetime replacement of brake pads. Halfords are not going to replace them if they are not worn out. The other catch is that to keep the lifetime replacement you have to agree to any other brake work at the time of the pad replacement. I suspect every time you tried to claim you would be hit for new discs or a new caliper. Clever money making scheme.
Exactly... I knew precisely what he was referring to - my point is the same as yours - the 'lifetime' providers won't just bung new pads on every time one asks for them.
He's just talking out of his anus as usual.0 -

The funny thing is the people braking at every corner arnt even going fast it just seems to be an automatic reaction when they see a corner. They seem to go along at around 40 - 45 MPH then brake slightly everytime they see a corner, only slowing down a few MPH then accelerating slightly.
If your pads don't last atleast 50k your one of these people aswell!0 -
I was advised about my brake pads 3 years (and 40k miles) before they actually needed changing......
I kept an eye on them, made sure they were wearing evenly on both sides of the disc (important) and I got them changed with the discs when the warning light came on.
Telling people they need new brakes at 50% wear, it's great for profit, not so great for the environment........“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I have lifetime brake pads so I change them whenever but usually every 5000 miles.
Brake pad compounds wear down over time and distance - better be safe than sorry. No way would I wait 23k miles before replacing mines.
Ha Ha Ha - I bought my E220 3 and a half years ago. The car was on 52k. I had the main dealer change all brakes and discs, and am now on 126k on same brake discs and pads. On last service was told 35% left on them.
Must be the downward pressure you put on the corgi toys as you push them around. 5000 miles of that is impressive though. Kudos.0 -

When they need changing. Also, should the discs be done at the same time as the pads, even if they are ok?
No, change them when they need changing.
Disks and pads both wear in easily measurable ways. Modern pads can be a lot harder on disks than the older compounds, so disks can need replacing up to every other set of pads. But not with every set...0
