I think that is what I will do. Let them send letters, its not costing me anything!
That's what I'd do but you said you'd find it difficult to ignore.

Have you looked at the template letter?

Personally I wouldn't open them anymore as they aren't for you. I would return them with a note saying this person doesn't live at the address. I would also stick them inside another envelope and not put a stamp on.

After paying several lots of excess postage fees due to no stamp they might get the message.

Don't forget to mark the envelopes 'Payment Enclosed', to ensure they do actually pay the fees.

I do find if difficult to ignore. Tempted to go to the gym round the corner and ask them what they are playing at.

I couldn't view the template letter as it was a Rich Text Format, my laptop couldn't open it.

Do you have a mobile phone with unlimited minutes? Check their number is included in your tariff for free and call them! Call them on the bus. Call them when you are waiting in a supermarket queue. At a train station? Call them. Call them at every opportunity. Change your mindset from anger and irritable to mischievious and fun. Waiting for your kids at ballet? Call them! On the toilet having a 20 minute poo? Call them. See how many times you can call them in 20 minutes. When the same operator has answered your call 10 times they kind of get the message. Your time is free. Their time is money. Waste their money. The more you tie up their operators the less money they make.

    Here's the template:
    HOME ADDRESS

    DATE

    COMPANY ADDRESS

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Account No: XXXXXXXXXXX

You have contacted me/us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself/ourselves.

I/we would point out that I/we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (COMPANY NAME).

I am/we are familiar with the Office of Fair Trading Debt collection Guidance which states that it unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.

I/we would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.

Furthermore ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.

I/we would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above account unless you can provide evidence as to my/our liability for the debt in question.

I/we await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed.

I/we look forward to your reply.

I've had this at every address I've lived at; there's absolutely nothing you can do that will be effective, just ignore them and after a year or two nobody will want to buy the debt and the letters will stop.

Most recently I've been harassed by phone because someone has given my number as their own, constant calls/voicemails/texts are a lot less fun...

Unless I'm reading the OP wrong, that letter is totally pointless for the situation as i read it.

The letters aren't addressed to the OP - hence my (and tbh simplest way of dealing with it) advice.

If the letters aren't for you just mark them not known at this address, return to sender.
Yes, well, the OP initially didn't want to ignore the letters:
