Like all the other posters have said, as you agreed to a contract Vodafone are not doing anything wrong. I'd say contact them and see if you can reduce your tariff to something more manageable.0

First things first. Write a letter to Voda customer services, keep a copy and send it recorded delivery. Tell them if they are going to keep charging you the £50 per month, then they will have to reconnect you. If you are happy to keep paying the fifty quid then they should have no problem in re-connecting you. If they refuse to re-connect you but still take the fifty quid each month, tel them that you are going to cancel the direct debit and that you will contact Oftel and trading standards (sale of goods act 1974)
Tell them you will give them 10 days to reply to your letter after such time you will then cancel the D/Debit.
If you cannot keep paying the £50 due to financial restrictions, then try and nicely negotiate a get out deal. Either way be nice. If you speak with people on the phone, write down times, dates and names. you May need them in case of a court case. But beware if you cancel the D/debit without giving notice you can be sued for breach of contract and you could end up with a county court judgement.0
