HSBC credit card- stolen items refund?

Long story short, I had a load of cycling equipment stolen from my car at the weekend. Lots of which had been bought recently using my HSBC credit card. I've been told that there is a possibility I can claim the money I paid back due to having some form of protection that comes with the card? I rang HSBC but they didn't seem to know much about it and after being on hold for a lifetime I thought I'd find out if it was an avenue worth pursuing. I have an HSBC Advance account and the credit card is just a standard Visa.
Thanks for any help

Many credit cards used to have this protection, usually for 100 days from purchase, but ditched it years ago. Not seen any offering it for a long time.0

No.
Check whether your contents insurance covers for items away from home.0 -
I think you're probably thinking of Section 75 protection, which will cover you in the event that goods are faulty, not delivered, company goes bust, etc. But it won't cover you for theft - there's a possibility that a card may offer theft insurance as a "special offer" or "added bonus" or suchlike, but it's not standard across cards in the way that S75 is - and you'd have surely been made aware of it if they did offer theft cover.
As ZX81 says, you need to check whether you have "away from home" cover on your home contents insurance.0 -
............or your car insurance.0

Sorry OP you are out of luck. You'll either need to claim off your car insurance or home contents insurance (assuming your cover extends to out of home goods).I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Interestingly I have just received a replacement card for Post Office Credit Card with a book outlining this very insurance. I didn't know it existed on this account. Lots of restrictions on cover and claims but it might still be useful in some circumstances0
