We've been getting bees in our bedroom, coming through the air vent in the ceiling. Will be following this thread. We need to cover the vents with cardboard but we have really high ceilings and no ladders to get up there! We just have to keep catching them and letting them out but we are going to inform the landlord about it. We can't just kill bees but hopefully there will a solution.

bees are protected , they cannot be killed by law , only moved by a beekeeper if they will take them

I'd hire a ladder and block the vents with wire mesh as again they will chew

    Unfortunately, this isn't true.

There's your answer: randomly quantify, re-define the life cycle of the wasp and get an expert in, because Harry can see up your chimney.

I have had several wasps coming in through vents over the past month. So they are already active.

However, this is MSE, so if the cardboard and tape works, I'd hold off a bit. It will probably cost the same to deal with at whatever stage, and if there is an active nest in a month or so, you'll be able to see the wasps entering and leaving, using binoculars.

And if there isn't, you've saved money, because it's not a landlord's problem.

you can deny it all you want, there are wasps about. down south.

We've had them too (definitely not newly woken queens). While it is a bit early for them, we did have a warm spell before spring properly arrived. It confused the flowers in our garden, so isn't it possible it confused the wasp queens too and they started a bit early?
I think they probably did start early this year, but they couldn't get going to any great extent without flowering plants for the working wasps.

Those are about now, in quantity, so there will be wasp activity, just nothing like what there will be in a few more weeks.

That's why I suggested holding back for while, because it's not unusual to have a run of queen wasps coming out in succession; I had 3 in a day a week or two ago. I haven't had a single normal wasp yet here, and I am more south than most.

Do NOT start messing with the structure of your landlord's property.........

We're not! The only one who can reach the vent is our cat as he can climb on top of the wardrobe!
The letting agents had an option on their maintenance report site for bees so hopefully they will sort it for us and we'll just keep putting them outside.
