Perfectly doable up north.
Hmmm.
Which of these is cheaper oop north?
Rent - likely to be some difference from say London but not a huge difference from like for like areas
council tax - Bristol Band B - £1399 pa Doncaster Band B £1199 - -£200 less a year, so about 14% less
Water rates - likely to be similar
Gas - everyone gets same deal
Electricity - everyone gets same deal
Building and contents insurance depends on area and value of property
Food - prices are pretty much the same across the country
TV licence - identical
telephone rental and call charges - same across the country
Broadband - same across the country
Car tax - same across the country
Car insurance - depends on area
Petrol for car - similar in most parts of UK
Maintenance of car - can't see any reason for huge change
Just the council tax alone is £100 a month. In fact as Council tax is paid over 10 months, not 12, it is £119.90 a month for 10 out of 12 months. Are you saying you can find somewhere in Doncaster to rent, and pay all the bills too and feed yourself for £151 a month? And run a car? What are you renting an actual shoe box - not a figurative one, a real one?

It's the north, £250/month is more than enough.0 -

Don't forget houseshares.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-56121256.html £174 a month. Bills inclusive is an option.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-59221702.html £74 per week, including bills.
Doesn't seem impossible to hit about that, especially if he has paid car insurance/tax for the year in advance etc, and isn't amortizing it over the year.0 -

Neither of those will include council tax, however.0 -

You keep repeating that, but you don't substantiate what you say. You're saying that £130 a month will cover rent, food, insurance - house and car, energy, entertainment.
I paid that as rent to my parents 17 years ago per month.
One day, when you grow up and leave home, you will find out real expenses. 'Til then, appreciate what you have, and keep your corgi toy boxes. Those toy M3s and Nissan 350Z maybe worth some money in the future (though the toy Yaris might not fetch as much.0 -
