Cant remember companies! What can i do?

I've had a similar problem. i know i had ppi on loans and a store card late 80's. Tried the companies, i could remember who they were, but they can't trace anything and i don't have any documentation left. Any hope, or is it a lost cause?0

If you have nothing and the companies have nothing then it is game over. The older things are, the less likely records are going to exist.
