Cant remember companies! What can i do?

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me as my brain just frazzles with things like this.

I used the template from this website to start claims for a few companies i thought i might have had PPI mis-sold to me, and to my surprise my bank has paid me a sum of £900 into my account - no idea why its that amount but they said i should receive a letter explaining - should i have 8% compensation on top of what i am owed? Would they be honest with me and simply pay the correct in with no contact with me about it? No offers etc?

Also when i was younger i had a few loans for cars/finance for cars/online shopping catalogues etc but literally cannot remember the company names / no paper work for them at all as we've moved and had a good clear out of old papers etc.

Can i still do this myself? Ive tried registering with experian to see loans etc but it seems to only go back a little while and not my previous addresses and i dont know how i can find any of it out without asking a company to help me but its sad i wont get all the payout but should i just be grateful for what they get for me since i dont know how to find out old information :(

Thank you xxx

Your credit files only go back as far as 6 years.

If you cant remember any then your out of luck I believe.

Wjo is this company you speak of, would they be taking a cut of what you could get ?

Ah so you can only claim PPI from within 6 years ago? I read it was dateless, cant remember where i read that.

Ive no idea which company, i am googling as i speak, but it would be someone who took a cut of the amount retrieved. The no win no fee type people.

No. You can complain about PPI bought further back than that.

The 6 years refers to how long your credit file info is retained by the credit score agencies.

your borrowing history is not in the public domain. The only way to find out is your credit file (for the last 6 years) or your own records.

......If you have signed up to one of the ambulance chasers they will send you a bill for 30% of the refund then add VAT on top and will get nasty if you don't pay up - so keep 40% to hand!

    Apologies I didn't fully explain.

Dunstoh and jonesMUFC have provided good advice.

Do you want to use 1 of these firms who take a cut and then leave you with a small amount ?

The CMCs don't know how to find out information either, they rely on what you tell them. If you can't remember, you're out of luck.

Ah right ok thats probably what i needed to hear, if i cant remember the names of the loan / credit card / store cards etc then a company who take a cut in the rebate cant find that information out?

I thought there was a company who can find it out just by giving them your name, i heard them on the radio.

I would much rather continuer to do it myself with the tools provided here but i just cant remember so i thought if a company who offer no-win-no-fee could recover more from those i cant remember then i woodland mind paying their 25/30% as it would have been more than i would have been able to get on my own.

That 25/30% is not including Vat.

No claims co can find out who you had PPI with and who the banks are, if you don't know, how they can they?.
Are you sure you don't remember any of the banks?, think about it and then contact the banks direct and ask if they can find you.

    There is, sort of.

You give them your name, and they say 'Hello Cas, who did you have PPI with?'

Thats really helpful thank you - i thought there might have been records somewhere that they could access so to hear that saves me even contacting one of those companies.

    Thank you x
