E-On taking money out of my ESA without permission

Why can they suddenly do this?
Why don't I have the right to say how much they take out?
Why don't I have the right to say which debt the money goes on since there are higher priority debts than my electricity bill.
Can I stop them is there anyway?

If it works like fuel direct the energy supplier gets something like £3.75/fuel/week as a minimum payment. Is that what's happening?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

they are taking 30 pounds a WEEK can you believe it, I do owe the company money but only because I fell into poor mental health and could not afford to pay for a long time0 -
Have you spoken to E.On or JCP about it ? You must have given your account details to JCP or your NI number to E.On to get this set up.

The £3.75 is to pay off the debt, you also have to pay for what you are currently using so you can't just get away with £3.75.
Are you giving them regular meter readings, rather than just waing for an estimated bill to drop through the door. Hopefully if you are giving regular readings then you should only be paying for the energy that you are using.
I suppose the alternative is a pre-pay meter which I'm assuming you haven't got at the moment?Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Good morning LifeIsHard,
There's already some good advice on the thread, so thank you all.
It sounds like something has been set up somewhere for us to be taking the payments, but I'm not sure why you haven't had conformation of it.
I think you should speak to us, we actually have a credit operations department and they are the ones best placed to speak to, they can offer and set up payment arrangements.
If you can also have some meter reads ready when you ring, it means we can get the account fully billed up to date and you'll know where you are.
As matelodave says, there might be the option of a pre-payment meter, again this is something you can talk to us about.
Thank you

they just started taking my cash without me setting anything up or being asked permission0

Under what circumstances would E-On be denied the ability to take cash from my ESA? Im gonna appeal and take it all the way, what are some good reasons (please non eon representatives answer)
Would using a different electricity company in a different flat stop the payments?0 -
LifeIsHard, language like that is not accepted on this forum, nor are personal attacks. As such I expect the forum team will delete your response to Helena.
If you need help, keep it civil.
If the deduction is via the Fuel Direct scheme it cannot be taken from a previous supplier. However the supplier can prevent you from switching if the debt is more than £500 and you do not have a prepayment meter (if you do, you'll continue to pay the debt via the meter with a new supplier). If you can leave, a new supplier can refuse to take you.
It is very much in your interest to communicate with E On and come to an arrangement to pay your debt.0 -

How are they taking £30 per week? Is it direct debit from your bank or out of your ESA? How much do you owe them?
If you want help & advice you need to provide details and quit the abuse.0 -
If you think they have taken it without agreement , contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). They can give you debt advice and Benefits deduction appeals advice too. You will need to pay for your fuel at some point though0
