The Consumer Rights Act says:
" If the consumer paid money under the contract, the trader must give the refund using the same means of payment as the consumer used, unless the consumer expressly agrees otherwise."Manxman_in_exile wrote: »Is this right?
I ask because I had to get a refund from Great Outdoors for some sandals that broke. The credit card I'd bought them with had been lost and cancelled, and GO refused to put the refund on my replacement card. But they were quite happy to refund me in cash. (Only about £30). Were they wrong to do so?
As it appears you were happy for a cash refund, they were not wrong to do so.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

If they were wrong to do so, how would I have been refunded if they can only put it back on the card that was used for the initial purchase? People lose or mis-place credit cards all the time. (Or at least my wife and I do!)
it is with the company my wife works for, not sure about all payment gateways though.
How an actual shop processes a refund without card could be different, but I know the company my wife works for will only process a refund onto the card used for the original transaction0 -

It doesn't apply to retailers, although people (including staff) seem to think it does.

But it will apply to the card company who are a financial and credit business and to any transaction made through them.0 -

So does that mean that in my case (where the retailer refunded in cash because the original card had been lost and cancelled) there was a breach of the money laundering regs because the refund should have gone back to my credit card company irrespective of the fact that I, as the consumer, was happy to receive cash? Or am I being thick?0
