Log burner smells / fumes help

Hi, i fitted a 5.6kw log burner about 2 years back & i am now getting the smell of the fire in the room. I have had it all tested & passed when i fitted it as it was part of a build that went though building control.
In the same room i have smoke/heat/cOM detectors & none have been tripped by the fire/smells. Is there an inexpensive fume sniffer i can buy to test the door & flue joints?. I have put a couple of smoke pellets in the fire & cant see any leaks.
Any other suggestion would be a help.

Thanks

Have you had the flue/chimney cleaned recently?

No, not yet as its only been used around 4-5 weeks in the evenings in total. This has always been with good dry hard wood.

You really do need to get a professional chimney sweep in. Some smell, usually more from wood I find, is understandable and acceptable but if you've noticed a change there could be a problem with the liner or the chimney. It's wiser not to take risks.

Yes, I agree with A. Badger. You need a professional to check it out.

If it had been recently cleaned there is a possibility the joints in the flue had been disturbed during the cleaning process, but that can be ruled out.

If working correctly the flue should always be drawing air in, never out, so if something is escaping from the flue to the point you can smell it then something doesn't sound right. It is remotely possible you have some kind of blockage in the flue.

In windy weather particularly it is possible for some smoke to be blown back momentarily which will give you a strong smell in the room. But this shouldn't be happening all the time.

Don't take a risk, get it checked.

    Bird's nest?

Especially if it's never been swept.

My first thought, that or wasps/bees. But also a possibility of a collapsed/corroded flue liner. No way of knowing without shoving something up there and see if anything falls out. Hopefully not a swarm of angry wasps ;)
