My vegetable oil fuel experience...

Looking at the four main supermarkets, the minimum price of veg oil is now over £1/litre. Last year I remember it was 43p.
Seems there's not a lot of point making biodiesel or risking SVO in the car at that price!?0 -
This is not the best place to ask about running your car on veg oil you need a specialist forum with experience. Alot of these newer cars are fantastic on fuel, my dad's Astra 1.7 CDti does 56mpg so its not worth the risk on these cars.0

I do 40'000 miles and run the car (Ford Escort 1.8TDI) on a 50% mix of SVO and it runs fine, it was on tonight with trevor mcdonald a week ago, tried it and have run on it ever since, I buy biodiesel from a local source a few times a month for reciepts if I do get quizzed. its £1.20 a litre for biodiesel and 87.9 for SVO from wholesalerWe’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. wait untill winter arrives, the cold will have a huge effect on svo0

Yep wont be long before your pump is another victim its simply not designed for thicker fuel, your only lucky because the weather is warm at the moment but wait till the temp drops one night and the next morning it could go bang. Your better off using biodiesel.0

GarethK - I read that you have some mechanical knowledge and have a Xantia. I wonder if you could maybe shed some light on my problem. I have a 98 Xantia TD. and ran it on SVO for maybe 5k last year until I got an LPG car. The Xant is now not used too much. It has developed a reluctance to start though (It was excellent before I ran it on SVO, starting instantly). I have changed the glow plugs and filter & filter housing and fuel supply hose up to and including the primer bulb. (the glow plugs were done approx 12 months back, just before I started using SVO). Any ideas what this could be? its driving me nuts! It takes 2 or 3 longish cranks to fire, then it splutters for a moment or 2 and is then fine (I usually prime the priming bulb before this too, if its been left longer than a week, it is impossible without using the primer bulb).
Thanks

I have been buying the chemicals to convert SVO to biodiesel, the cost is about 25ppl and I simply add the chemicals and I have been told that it will work great in the coldWe’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Jest a quick question, Why does Morrisons Petrol Station sell Biodiesel B30 (Orange Pump) at the same price as diesel. Surely it would cost less to make and less tax etc...?We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Not seen it myself but it should be a bit cheaper, as even new cooking oil is cheaper than crude oil (just!)0
