How do I go about arranging for a moval van and how to setup a backup?

Work out the cost of 2 men's wages, which will be the time they load the van, drive to your new home, unload, then drive back to the depot. Plus the percentage of the cost price and running costs of a removal van, percentage of wages of estimator and admin, percentage of rent/mortgage, rates and running costs of the depot that each customer pays , the fuel costs.
Which will be a lot, lot more expensive than hiring a Luton roofed Transit, which you will have to load yourself and make sure everything is secured. Then you have to drive a slow heavily laden van 30 miles and then unload everything and return the van in an undamaged condition. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I mean, if you are in Eccles or Wigan you would be better to use a removals firm more local than trying to persuade a company from Stockport to travel over to you - they can pick up enough work locally without adding to their travel costs. But if you are south/east Manchester, they would be a "local" firm.cashmonger wrote: »The quotes I have been getting are £250-300 to move a 1 bedroom flat just over 30 miles.
That is a huge markup on what it costs them or it would cost me to do it. I understand they would charge a bit for labour but £190!!!?
That's fine if you want to do all the carrying, loading & unloading yourself (you mention not having friends that can help). Personally I prefer to pay somebody to carry out all that manual labour so that I don't break anything and don't accidentally pull a muscle that means I am out of action for weeks.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Shouldnt the mover be coming to you regardless of where you are :P?
