Adhesive for sticking laptop hinge cover

Having recently purchased a second hand Asus laptop, the hinge cover keeps falling off and I'd like to find a way of sticking it back.

Unfortunately most of the flimsy plastic tabs on both the cover itself and the laptop have broken off hence the reason it isn't secure.

Superglue doesn't look like a great tool for the job so if anyone has alternative suggestions that could be used please let me know.

  • Hi,

I think for something to do your job it would need to be flexible, which won't work on a hinge.
  • It's not on the hinge, but on the hinge cover so it can be something permanently fixed if stuck onto the screen side of the laptop (I assume?)
  • Hi,

aye fine, if lid is left in same position, but if lid is open and closed daily then that part will flex as well.
  • Ah ok thanks, never considered that. The lid would be regularly opened/closed so that might be an issue. I'd thought that as the edge that would be glued down would move with the lid then the join would be secure.

On a good few occasions a picture is worth 1000+ words

if it is just a cover then depending what is beneath it , a dab of silicon sealant. or stick some duct tape over the top
  • Good point, photos attached (if it works). Duct tape would probably be the easiest option but probably not the neatest.

Need a new cover, all the clips are broken off. You'll not get a satisfactory way of sticking that on. Ebay should have something.

Unfortunately most of the clips on the laptop itself are also broken off so I don't think that's going to be a viable solution either. Might have to use without a cover at all.
Does make me wonder if the clips are that weak to start with or if it's been subject to some rougher than normal treatment in the past.

I see the metal screen hinges there. Think that the hard disk is more towards the front? Thinking if magnets glued onto the plastic would hold onto the metal screen brackets?

You asked for "alternative suggestions". It is alternative, and a suggestion, but not necessarily a good one :D
  • I certainly can't dispute that it is certainly an alternative and I appreciate the suggestion! The HD is toward the front of the unit but the optical drive is close by and in particular the WLAN module is under the hinge cover.

All in all perhaps it's best if I leave it - with the clips on the unit knackered I don't think there's an ideal solution even if I bought another cover.
