I think that the OP must be an MP as that would explain their refusal to answer any questions put to them and their constantly trying to divert away from what they have already stated.
Sorry I am afraid I have a bit of life and need to do things, so can not stay hiding behind a computer screen all day.
The question I pose was valid, to whom it relates to is not material to the question, only the facts are.
In all my posts I did not say who it related to as I just want a discussion on the point raised.
Yet everyone is jumping on the me being some kind of benefit / insurance cheat. This is not the case.
You all assumed because I was asking a question I was the one who doing this act. I am asking not because I am planning to commit fraud of any sort. It is none of your business, but as lots of you seem to think I am an benefits cheat and out for blood,. will tell you the reason why I am asking.
My son, lives with his mum and new partner. But despite them living as family, I highly suspect she is officially living as a single parent. The new partner is still registered living at another address.
While yes it is benefits fraud, which BTW I am totally against. but that is not the issue. My issue is, is my son a passenger in a legally insured car. If he was involved in a serious accident would insurance be void0 -

OK, so it's not you. Whoever it IS is trying to defraud the benefits system, from the information you've given us. So the only question is one of identity - and, you have to admit, assuming you were asking for yourself was a reasonable assumption given the way the question was framed...?
Why not just ask the whole question, with all pertinent information, in the first place? My son, lives with his mum and new partner. But despite them living as family, I highly suspect she is officially living as a single parent. The new partner is still registered living at another address.

OK I'll answer the question.
You can have the car registered to whatever address you want. However be aware that post will be sent there so if its caught on a speed camera and the post doesn't get picked up, forwarded to you then you may find yourself getting points/fines/court appearances you weren't expecting.
Insurance doesn't have to be at the same address as the car is registered at but if you're living in X and want to insure the car from address Y then that's a big no-no. It has to be insured for the address where you live or in the case of a company insuring its own vehicles, the company's address/registered office address. The reason for that is to stop people living in a high risk area such as BD1/BD2 postcodes where insurance is eye wateringly expensive and insuring it at an address in YO25 which is very low risk so a lot cheaper. If you do that then that's insurance fraud, plain and simple. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So why didn't you say this at the start? If you are looking for assistance then it's best to furnish those you seek assistance from with enough information so that they can assist you. Trying to disguise things doesn't help anybody. Your car needs to be insured for where it is normally kept, nowhere else. Your son doesn't have to be resident with you to be covered as a passenger in the event of an accident.
The only way this would be an issue if he was Justin Bieber or someone that was famous which would bring in risk of association etc0
