for the panels
construction method will part determine longevity things like the number/size of frame batons
but the main thing will be the size of the timbers used.
£20 lap panels with 4-5mm sheet won't be as robust as £40 15-20mm feather edge close board panels
IME withcheap panels the joints go first and the panel starts to fall apart.0 -
I find it depends on how many coats have already been applied to the fence in years gone by.
My rear fence, which I renewed three years ago is currently receiving a coat a year, I'll probably shift that back to ever two years depending on how it looks next spring, while the side fence, which is over 50 years old is fine with a coat every other year. I do thin the Creosote out with used engine oil though, normally @ 7:4 in creosotes favour.
I recently changed a fence post in the side fence, the Creosote had worked it's way about 25mm into the timber of a 100mm post, it has probably had in excess of 25 coats over it's lifetime though.0
