you can use this phone via your own wireless lan........free internet???

NO - you get charged for browsing the net using your own wireless network.

2 weeks use, 145Mb £23 for a service I'd assumed was free, I'd set it up to forward emails, no moneysaving there!
Orange say that you are still using their service even if is via your own wireless router.

Is this a con trick?

are you sure you are using wifi (not gprs/3g)?

if not, orange may have done something to the software to do this

masrock - sounds like you are actually connecting to the internet using the Orange GPRS service. I can't connect to the internet using my LAN (as I'm not sure how to configure the settings to the Security LAN keys that I use on my wireless router).

Anyway, whenever I try to connect to the internet, my N95 gives me the options of how I would like to connect - via LAN, Orange MMS, Orange GPRS, etc. Does your handset give you these options? It might be set as default to always connect through Orange GPRS, so you may need to change the default to your LAN. Good luck.
