Best Changing date to swap over my energy supplier

I'm still on a good deal with my old supplier that will not end until the end of May. At this moment its still cheaper than other suppliers in a comparison, although other suppliers will be cheaper when I end being on this tarif at the end of May, so when do I start to change the energy supplier to a new company? Do I wait until the last moment at the end of May, or does it take a few weeks to change over in which case I should start the change, by applying to a new supplier now. Will my new bill date start with my new supplier from the day I actually apply to change to them, or the day they ask for my bill reading?

When you apply to change is simply a gamble.

Your start date with the new supplier is when the old and new supplier agree on the meter readings; can be some weeks after you apply to switch.

No exactly, if you use a switch tool. MyEnergy for example is the quickest and easiest to use for UK homeowners. they speed up the process and make the energy bill savings accessible to you within a few days. of course, it depends on your current situation with your existing supplier

On a fix? You can switch again penalty-free in the last 49 days of your deal

In 2013, Ofgem introduced new rules to protect people on fixed tariff deals. This included banning suppliers from charging exit fees in the last seven weeks of fixed-term deals.

If you're near the end of a fix, you can't be charged exit fees for moving to a new deal – provided your switch completes within 49 days of your current deal ending – despite what some suppliers say.

    Renters can switch too
