This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Thank for the thread Gers.
Hugs to Karcher and Csarina, sorry your holiday wasn't what you hoped.

Morning all,
Brrr very cold here toay with a thick frost on everything !! I just hope my plants have survived.
Off to work today and Thursdays is always a manic day but usually good fun we have a very loud / jolly bunch of clients today so we usually laugh a lot, so should be a good day
Dinner at mums last night was very tasty and she sent us home with the left over pork and a tiny bit of lamb which we will have tonight with some chips and peas.
Still no online shop done but ok for food for a while will have to do a shop soonish though.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning, I slept quite well until 5, not bad going at all.
I am now on days off and just have a little paperwork to do at home. I have a chiropody appointment this afternoon and have crown preparation at the dentist tomorrow, need to muck out the Augean Stables, aka our bathroom and do some general housework. My life is full of fascination.
Still quite cold but brighter at least.
I was late back from work yesterday and made myself a small helping of risotto with saffron and herbs. The chaps had already eaten and this is what they had:
Salad
Barbecued chicken pieces
Pork satay
Lamb meatballs
Mint raita
Chips
I sometimes wonder if I should alter my working hours to enable them to eat without me all the time but I don't imagine that OH woukd be cooking that little lot daily though he does enjoy it.
I might make them some southern fried chicken tonight, a bit meagre after that meatfest.
Hope everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks. Thanks GERS for the start off.
The appt with the Neurologist yesterday didn't follow the route I was anticipating. I was expecting to be told there was further spread of Mr TA's cancer to the brain (hence the necessity of the brain scan) but I was wrong. After much prodding with pins, reflex testing, tuning forks vibrating here, there and everywhere, the consultant said it was Motor Neuropathy. He said this occurs frequently in cancer patients or following cancer treatment. There are two types. One treatable and the other not. Meaning it will get worse over time until walking is impossible. Now awaiting nerve conduction studies (in 2/3 weeks) to determine which type. It goes without saying which I am expecting when we see the Neurologist again for a follow up. I've forgotten what a life without worry is like.
Meanwhile life goes on as it must and I am currently living in what resembles Steptoe's yard. DS gets the keys of his house down the road tomorrow and has been bringing stuff over daily to store at DD's, GF's and here. Meanwhile he is sleeping/eating either here or at GF's. He is due here for breakfast about 8.30 then going over to the apartment to collect the last few bits and give it a final clean. It has served it's purpose these last 6 months by providing distance between him and the psycho ex.but now he is ready to be back nearer to friends and family (and a longer drive to work!)
DD is en route to the airport as I speak for a wedding in Jersey. BF is best man. The DGDs are staying at their dads till they return Monday. As if his partner hasn't enough on with the new baby! She is so good and the girls love her to bits.
Shopping day in store for me but not much needed so just a quick foray into Aldi should be enough.
I am waffling. Have a good day all and (HUGS) to those in need/want of one. CSARINA I'm sorry your holiday wasn't a success. At our age, I agree, hotels are the way to go. A few days at our caravan are a nice break for us but for a proper holiday I like to be looked after! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Morning All
Dry and bright here, I've been for a walk so am a bit short of time.
Hope everyone's ok, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Chilly here too but another bright clear day, if the rain holds up I'll even get another cut of the grass done. I also need to rearrange and sort out the small steading as there's the two huge packets of loo and kitchen rolls to put somewhere other than the floor.
Today I've got a little bit of work, don't know what my visitors have planned. No need to shop or wash!
Thinking of TA and MrTA and hoping for good news.
I wish everyone a good and happy Thursday.0 -
Morning all,
Another one here with a frost this morning, the sky is relatively clear and it's cold so the heating is on for an hour.
It's DOH's birthday today so we will only have a light breakfast ahead of going out for lunch, he is four years younger than me so my very own toy boy :rotfl:
Heard yesterday that my nephew has been accepted on an apprenticeship at our local football club, although lower league they are professional so it's a fantastic achievement. Since he was a little boy all he has ever wanted to be is a footballer and now he has a chance of making his dream come true, we are very proud of him and his Aunt will literally burst to see him run on the pitch of the club she's supported for nearly 30 years!
Hugs to Karcher and Csarina, also thinking of the TA's.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Happy Birthday to your lovely OH Lainey and have a lovely lunch out! I have a toy boy too! Mr TA is 3 years younger than me! When we met he was sport mad - playing football through the winter and cricket in the summer. Life can be cruel can't it xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Good Morning everyone, Hugs <<to all in need>> T/A I know its been such a worry to you, but try not to stress too much honey, all this waiting around between tests and results aren't helping either are they .I'm rooting for you both as I'm sure everyone on here is as well xx
H/H soon be settled in your boat I was at a friends last nigh,t and her brother was saying how he was looking into getting a canal boat to live on as it would suit his life style brilliantly. He is staying at his sisters (my friend's until he can get somewhere else, and he works fairly close to a canal up here in Manchester where there are seemingly quite a few.
He came back from Australia last year when his marriage broke down and now needs to put down some sort of permanent base, and I was talking about your foray into a life afloat
Karcher I hope things take an upward turn for you.
Well yesterday was a great day and we had lunch with my nephew in Bury at the Fusiliear's Museum, which is a really interesting place to go for a look around and do a very nice lunch as well.
Lovely to see him and we had such a nice couple of hours nattering. Then we went to visit my OH's oldest friends DD in Marple and has a wonderful time there as well.
She lives in a farmhouse right up in the hills and I haven't seen her for over 30 years and her and her OH made us both so welcome and we stayed to dinner and because we were catching up we never actually left until gone 11pmI knew her when my children were small as she used to baby sit for me back in the 1970s.
Now she is a grandmaherself. Her brother whom I also knew since her was a little boy is now a 6ft plus 50 year old
and he used to play with my two DDs as a child as they lived two doors away from us.
He has been in Australia for over 20 odd years and only came home just over a year ago.So many things to catch up on, sometimes life seems to fly by before you know it.:):):)
Today we are going for a trawl around some of the smaller towns and we are starting off with Glossop and then I think Stalybridge.
Our last day today as we make our way home to Kent tomorrow.I shall be sorry to leave all the great people we have met, and that we have been welcomed with nothing but kindness, they are really the friendliest folk up here is an understatement. So although I shall be happy to see my family and own home I feel I shall be leaving a place I would be more than happy to revisit again on my travels:):)
Right, time for a cuppa and a shower I think and get ready for some more adventures on our last day
Cheers chums

Csarina we often holiday in Premier Inns, we tend to stay in one for a couple of nights & then move on to another. Yes, you can have breakfast, but if you go full English then you can skip lunch for a piece of cake or scone from the box you bring from home...we also do bedroom picnics for our evening meal, just take two plates & cutlery from home
No fridge in the room though.
