I have a stainless steel gas hob with black cast iron pot stands and rings. They are very heavy and sticky to clean - any suggestions on the best way?

I thought bar keepers friend was for stainless steel not for cast iron? It is the cast iron bits I am having trouble cleaning not the stainless steel ones.

I put my cast iron hob bits in the sink in hot water while I clean the rest of the hob, then the crud wipes off easily with a cloth.

I think if they're looking a bit scuffed and you don't like that look, you can rub a little oil (veg oil or similar) into them with a soft cloth once they're thoroughly dry. I'm not sure how that would do on the bits that actually sit on the flame so maybe do some reading, but I suppose you do that to season cast iron pans.

Barkeeper's friend is amazing for most things! If soaking the cast iron doesn't work or you have rusty spots, I'd give it a go.

Just buy one of the oven cleaning kits from the pound shop - the one with the bottle of Caustic Soda ( Sodium Hydroxide) and a large plastic bag. Put the pan supports (and oven shelfs) in the bag and add the bottle contents - leave overnight. Minimum effort.
Do this outdoors - the bag will invariably leak.
