You only have to read the self-obsessed wittering about things not arriving on exactly the expected day ('ooh, my two teeshirts didn't arrive when expected, I'm so disappointed') to realise that ebay has created a whole world of opportunities for those who have expectations which bear no relation to reality!

My latest was a buyer who wanted to know not just when I'd posted it and where(!), but when exactly it would be delivered to her house and could I 'state both date and precise time'. This was a sheet of stickers sent second class...

I think the whole internet shopping thing has raised peoples expectations. You can buy something at 9pm on Amazon and it can be in your hands 9am the next morning. Even within an hour if you buy the right item and live in the right place.

Ebay pushes a corporate image so many people think they are buying from Ebay not someone who found something they don't want in a shed, sold it, works 8am-6pm 5 days a week and can't get to the Post Office till Saturday.

I received a message from a customer this morning, they paid 3 days after placing an order and then sent within hours, "Item showing as paid but not dispatched, Please Resolve." What do you make of that???

There seems to be a considerable correlation between the experience of the buyer (in terms of how many ebay purchases they've made) and their ability to grasp how ebay works, which I guess is what you'd expect. I think it is easy to overlook how baffling ebay can be to relative newcomers.

I'm a private seller and I now show a dispatch time of 7 days and only offer second class postage/3-5 working day courier, plus a disclaimer in the listing warning that delivery times cannot be guaranteed. Foolproof? In your dreams! But it does seem to have eliminated virtually all the anxious 'I've not received my item' messages which used to arrive a day or two after the sale.

Turning into an Amazon ADDICT... I live in a Prime Now area. Ordered some stuff at 17:20 and it arrived at 18:30.

Just bought some stuff with the same day delivery, i could have bought it for £2 less on Ebay but I was not sure whether i would need it the same day or not and the Ebay sellers were 3-5day delivery. This was on a Thursday night when i thought i may run out.

The convenience of having it now trumps the price, I may get banned from here for saying that :)

Sometimes i do not mind waiting 2 - 4 weeks for stuff to arrive from China because it saves a few pennies but when i want it now i need it now.

Trawling through the dreaded multi listings on ebay and finding only a handful of sellers with the exact item and then a 5 day estimated delivery i turn to Amazon.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

Was that by drone? If I bought a drone on Amazon would it deliver itself
I need to think of something new here...
