Have i any rights for a replacement battery

Options
Hi,

I purchased a cordless pruner in August last year, and it was only used the once for about 30 minutes. Since then it sat in storage over the winter months until I took it out the other day and it now won't charge.
I referred by the retailer to the manufacturer, who have said the battery only carries a 6 month warranty, as its classed as a part that suffers from wear and tear. I tried saying that its only ever been charged the once, but they didn't care and are charging £25 for a new battery.
I'm wondering if I have any grounds here, as the agent just went straight to its a battery fault. I questioned about the charger, but they have none in stock and don't expect any in stock for at least 2 weeks.
Is 6 months warranty on a battery fair esp on items like gardening tools that stored away for a number of months.

Thanks

    Batteries are consumables.

You have no proof you used it once.

Warranties are over and above your statutory rights. They don't need to be 'fair'

If you want to enforce your stat rights against the retailer after 6 months you'll need a report stating the battery and/or charger were inherently faulty when you bought it in august.

You, and I, may not think it fair, but a warranty is in addition to your statutory rights and no manufacturer has to even offer any warranty.
Of course that may well be a poor marketing strategy.

Did you also follow the manufacturer's guide for the battery. Was in stored in extreme cold? Also with batteries manufacturers often advise to charge them every months or so.

I had a very expensive torch with a massive battery, it died a death when it was stored in the cold over a couple of winters .

How do Lithium batteries do in similar circumstances?
